FY26–27 roadmap

Microsoft 365 E5 capability roadmap for FY26–27

A practical Australian financial-year adoption roadmap covering confirmed E5 additions, readiness work, pilots, governance and value tracking.

This FY26–27 roadmap is an enterprise adoption plan based on confirmed Microsoft 365 E5 packaging additions and published product guidance as at 12 July 2026. It is not a Microsoft release commitment. Public roadmap dates can move, and tenant availability is governed by Message Centre and service rollout.

Confirmed E5 additions entering FY26–27

CapabilityConfirmed packaging positionEnterprise action
Remote HelpAdded through the M365 E3 entitlement inherited by E5Design RBAC, helper-device controls and support process
Advanced AnalyticsAdded through the M365 E3 entitlement inherited by E5Create support queries and lifecycle reporting
Intune Plan 2Added through the M365 E3 entitlement inherited by E5Assess Tunnel for MAM, specialty devices and Android FOTA
Endpoint Privilege ManagementAdded specifically to M365 E5Audit elevations and plan local-admin removal
Enterprise Application ManagementAdded specifically to M365 E5Pilot catalogue apps and update governance
Microsoft Cloud PKIAdded specifically to M365 E5Complete PKI architecture and relying-party assessment
Microsoft Security CopilotIncluded for eligible M365 E5 customers with a licence-scaled monthly capacity modelReview automatic provisioning, roles, data access and usage governance
Defender for Office 365 Plan 1Added to M365 E3 and therefore inherited by E5 packaging, while E5 already has broader Defender for Office capabilitiesValidate licence overlap and avoid duplicate commercial assumptions

Q1 FY26–27: July to September 2026

Verify entitlements and tenant rollout

Capture Message Centre notifications, check service plans and record which features are active. Build a single licensing register showing E3, E5, add-ons and existing third-party equivalents.

Establish governance

Assign accountable service owners, custom RBAC roles, PIM controls, data/privacy reviews, change categories and pilot groups.

Quick-value pilots

Start Advanced Analytics and one or two low-risk Enterprise App Catalog applications. Build baseline metrics before changing tools or processes.

Q2 FY26–27: October to December 2026

Remote Help controlled rollout

Deploy the helper client, apply Conditional Access, integrate with service-desk procedures and compare session outcomes with the existing remote-support platform.

EPM audit and persona discovery

Collect elevation data, classify user personas and design a small set of high-confidence elevation rules. Do not remove local admin across the fleet yet.

Security Copilot readiness

Review automatic provisioning, default roles, Microsoft 365 data access and included capacity. Define approved use cases and monitor consumption.

Q3 FY26–27: January to March 2027

Least-privilege transition

Move selected personas from permanent local administrator rights to standard user plus EPM. Measure ticket volume, denied requests and exceptions.

Application-management scale-out

Expand catalogue adoption only where packaging quality and update processes meet service requirements. Rationalise duplicate packaging effort selectively.

Cloud PKI pilot

Implement a non-critical certificate use case or parallel pilot. Validate issuance, renewal, revocation, trust and authentication end to end.

Q4 FY26–27: April to June 2027

Tool rationalisation decision

Use evidence from pilots to decide whether to retain, reduce or replace third-party remote support, privilege management, packaging or PKI services.

Control assurance

Review role assignments, audit coverage, data handling, resilience, support ownership and outstanding exceptions.

FY27–28 roadmap

Refresh against Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Intune “In development”, Message Centre and product announcements. Separate confirmed dates from planning assumptions.

Track value and risk

AreaExample metric
EPMUsers removed from local admin, managed versus unmanaged elevations, approval turnaround
Remote HelpSession success, resolution time, percentage launched from compliant helper devices
Enterprise App ManagementPackaging hours avoided, update lead time, failed deployment rate
Advanced AnalyticsTickets resolved without remote session, battery replacements under warranty, device-query usage
Cloud PKICertificate issuance and renewal success, authentication failures, NDES infrastructure reduced
Security CopilotApproved use cases, capacity consumed, analyst time saved, quality review outcomes

Maintain a live watchlist

Review the Microsoft 365 Roadmap and Intune “In development” page monthly, but use Message Centre as the tenant-specific operational trigger. Record each item with product, roadmap ID, status, expected date, licence, owner, impact, action and last-checked date.

Roadmap disciplineMicrosoft states that roadmap dates and descriptions are estimates and subject to change. Do not use a public roadmap date as the only basis for a production change or contractual commitment.
